July 2002- Present:  Parochial Vicar and University Chaplain, St. Thomas More Parish, San Francisco.  Chaplaincy to:  San Francisco State University and University of California Medical School.

Sept. 2000- June 2002:  Parochial Vicar of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish, Mill Valley, in the Archdiocese of San Francisco

Diocese of Santa Rosa, California, USA:  August, 1998-May 2000.  Associate Pastor, St. Bernard Parish, Eureka, CA.  Pastoral work here involves teaching in the elementary school, liturgies for the diocesan high school, hospital work, music ministry, spiritual direction, home visitation, Bible study, liturgy planning, RENEW, RCIA, CCD, and a host of (mostly aging) parish associations.  In addition, I have been collaborating with the Permanent Diaconate Formation Team, a Deanery-wide program in training spiritual directors, and Newman ministry at Humboldt State University.  I have also been doing a lot of advocacy work for homeless, SSI, disabled, substance abuse, and related situations.

Diocese of Isernia-Venafro, Region of the Molise, Italy.  1987-1998.  I was ordained to the Diaconate in November, 1987, by M. R. Ettore De Filippo, for the Diocese of Isernia-Venafro.  I was academic advisor to our minor seminarians and assisted the Bishop throughout the Diocese until being ordained to the Presbyterate in May, 1988.  I was nominated Canon of the Cathedral in June, 1988, and assigned as chaplain to the Shrine of Ss. Cosmas and Damian, a beloved holy place of healing and prayer for six provinces in the region. The church needed extensive renovation, in which I was actively involved, and most of my ministry for the following decade was dedicated to the revitalization of the pastoral programs of this shrine church, which is very near to the provincial hospital.  I was also named chaplain to the village of Breccelle, in which I directed the catechetical programs for children and youth and provided all the ministry of a full-fledged parish.  I was also chaplain to the Sister Apostles of the Sacred Heart, whose main work is with adolescent and young adult women.  The work involved celebration of daily Mass, conferences for resident girls, spiritual direction of the Sisters, seasonal events.  I also planned and celebrated liturgies for pre-school children with the Sisters. In 1988, I was appointed by Bishop Di Filippo to the Diocesan Commission on Sacred Art.   I was an instructor in the Diocesan "Istituto di Scienze Religiose" (Pastoral Institute for training parish lay collaborators, catechists, and teachers of religion in the public schools) from 1988 to 1993, and Director of the Institute from 1991 to its closure in 1993; I handled all administrative and financial matters as well as teaching most of the core courses in the last years of the Institute's existence.  For 18 months (1991-93), I was administrator of the Parish of St. Anastasius, Acquaviva d'Isernia, where the situation was a material, cultural and spiritual disaster.  I put the parish back in order and handed it over to the care of the pastor of the neighboring parish until a permanent resident pastor could be found.  I was Diocesan Delegate for Ecumenism and Inter-religious Dialogue, 1995-98, and Diocesan Exorcist, 1992-1998, a work that put to the test all my training in psychology, anthropology, and pastoral counseling.

1980-84:  I worked for a UN NGO, Opera Pia International for Active Aging, directed by Msgr. Ettore De Filippo, who was Consigliere to the Permanent Observer Mission of the Holy See to the United Nations.  I edited books, pamphlets, and newsletters.  This involved speaking at meetings in the UN in New York and in Vienna, and at the Holy See.

1983-87  Active at Corpus Christi Parish, Manhattan, New York, where I was strongly influenced by Msgr. Myles Bourke.  This parish is noted for its strong musical tradition and fine preaching.  Fr. Raymond Brown was in residence at the time.

1980-83  Active at Sacred Heart Parish, Yonkers, NY., (Capuchin Fathers) as a Eucharistic Minister, liturgy planner, music ministry, and adult catechesis.   In the same period, I served as a catechist with the Melkite Parish in Yonkers, working with Lebanese and Palestinian families.

1978-80  Was part of an experiment in contemplative community living at the Benedictine Grange, W. Redding, CT, Diocese of Bridgeport, with Fr. John Giuliani and Br. David Steindl-Rast, O.S.B.  Ministries included liturgy planning, soup kitchen, adult catechesis, and designing/building a chapel out of an old New England barn.

1977-78  Student Chaplain at Sidney Farber Cancer Institute, Boston, MA.  A program I designed as part of my M.Div. program at Harvard Divinity School.

1977-78  Sacred Heart Parish, Watertown, MA.  Eucharistic Minister, reader, cantor.

1976-77  Malden Catholic High School, Malden, MA.  (Xavierian Brothers)  Taught religion in all-boys high school as part of my Harvard M. Div. program.

1972-73  Department of Social Justice, Diocese of Paterson, NJ.  Worked on social justice issues, helped organize a citywide coalition, did publicity, catechized Hispanic families in the neighborhood of the downtown cathedral.

1968-72  Cornell United Religious Work.  Did volunteer work with inner city children.  Hospitality and liturgy planning for ecumenical services in the university chapel.

1970-72  Residence Advisor, Cornell University  freshman dormitories.

1967-68  Catholic Youth Organization, Immaculate Conception Parish, Tuckahoe, NY.  Debate and Oratorical Competitions.
