A Day at Lourdes -- Saturday, October 2, 1999

The sick and elderly and those seeking spiritual healing met at St. Anne's Home of the Little Sisters of the Poor for "A Day at Lourdes."  Teens joined others in accompanying the pilgrims (perhaps pushing a wheelchair or aiding those who need help walking) on this day journey that included processions, anointing, Mass, a blessing of the sick, and lunch.

In June of 1999...

One Saturday in June we washed cars as a fundraiser.  A good number of our customers came from our parish; other folks passing by also stopped to have their vehicles washed.  Several said that they were glad to see life at St. Thomas More Church.

Teens hosted the Feast of St. Thomas More in June.   Richie was St. Thomas More, and Sarah was his daughter Meg.  Joshua was the jester, and Cristian was a roving artist.

Cindy

reads her original poem

The majestic mountain scrapes the clouds that are gently sailing by
And reaches up to heaven like a bridge from earth to sky
From her snow-covered mountain top to her rocky terrain
The sight still takes my breath away watching her stand so still, so amain
The eagle's nest hangs on the crest where it fringes the golden sky
And oversees all the land from deserts to where the oceans lie
Across the black waves or the sky under a ribbon of pearl
When the moon is our mother, the sun hides in the sea and the evening stars twinkle and twirl
With the silver road home behind me green waves are at my side
Where I close my eyes, forever it seems, worrying not about wealth nor pride
I close my eyes and am taken away by the windy seas
Rocking to a sweet, simple song that drifts along in the breeze
T'is all so pretty a sail it seems over hills and tops of trees
Carrying me away past all fears to a place only seen in dreams
To a far-off land where peace is found with little or no endeavor
Where I gently rock in the misty breeze that carries me away, forever

Teen Song

Youth at work are bringing God's own glory
To the earth from heaven above
Here to set aflame his story
One of service, truth, and love
We are striving to be faithful
To the will of God
To the will, the will of God

Prayer

Be with us God the Father
Be with us God the Son
Be with us God the Spirit
Eternal three in one
Make us a royal priesthood
Thee rightly to adore
And fill us with thy goodness
Now and forevermore
Amen.
